HTC Droid vs iPhone 4 vs Blackberry

What do you prefer? An Android or iPhone 4 or Blackberry?

Here's a guide in buying or choosing today's three popular SmartPhones:

A look at the main strengths — and drawbacks — of three popular smart phones

The main strengths - and drawbacks — of these three phones:

HTC Droid X: for avid Internet users
MW-AF096_droid__MC_20100623153157.jpg
With its fast Google-driven browser, Verizon's fourth Droid model may be a great buy for those who like to use their phone to access the Internet. The Android-powered devices were billed as the iPhone killer, and they do have several features that make them competitive. Motorola (NYSE: MOT - News) added several more to the Droid X model, such as an 8-megapixel camera.

Strengths: At 5 inches long and 2.6 inches wide, the Droid X has a 4.4-inch display that would suit users who want readability. "It's a handful, but a manageable one," Gikas said in his review. Gikas also likes the device's keyboard, which has a "Swype" feature that makes its touch-screen keyboard easy to use. The time-saving tool allows users to slide their fingers over the keyboard, rather than lifting them, when typing a word — and yet still avoid typos.

If you're looking for a phone with a big screen, great search tools and on a reliable network, get the Droid X," said Paul Eng, who also reviewed the phone for Consumer Reports.

Drawbacks: Droid phones are notoriously clunky. One of the largest phones on the market and weighing in at 5.5 ounces, it's not a good pocket phone. Also, if you prefer carriers other than Verizon, this model's not for you. Finally, some reviewers note that the screen's resolution is not as fine as the iPhone 4's resolution.

IPhone 4: for photo/video and app lovers
MW-AF008_iphone_MC_20100616123557.jpg

Strengths: A high-resolution touch screen makes it easy to read text; two cameras allow video chat; and a 5-megapixel camera with a flash takes great pictures. Gikas said he likes the phone's video-editing feature. And it's a good phone for people who like to play with apps — the iPhone serves as a platform for more than 300,000 applications.
"If your looking for a sharp screen, great multimedia features and a great source for content, choose the iPhone 4," Gikas said on Consumer Reports' website.

Drawbacks: Users have no carrier choice outside of AT&T. The iPhone 4 has that antenna issue. CEO Steve Jobs said Friday at a press conference that the company will give free protective cases to iPhone 4 buyers to alleviate the problem.

The BlackBerry: for email addicts
MW-AE529_blackb_MC_20100505141419.jpg

Strengths: In addition to its "push" feature, BlackBerry's email capabilities include linking several accounts to one master inbox, so users don't have to check multiple sources. BlackBerry users can choose from dozens of small and large carriers including AT&T, Verizon, Cellular One and T-Mobile. If you like using your thumbs to text, most Blackberry models have a physical QWERTY keyboard ideal for thumbing. BlackBerry also has two touch-screen models.

Drawbacks: Some reviewers say the BlackBerry models are clumsy with video streaming and slower with Internet use. The models that do have a camera don't offer much in the way of megapixels. For example, the BlackBerry Curve, one of the most recent models, has a camera with only 2 mega pixels. Finally, for those who prefer smaller phones, most of the BlackBerry models, which average 4.3 inches high and 2.4 inches wide, may be too large.

Windows XP downgrade is extended to 2020

This is not the right time for us to say goodbye to Windows XP.

Microsoft has announced that it will be extending the life of Windows XP yet again, offering “downgrade rights” to companies who buy copies of Windows 7 for another 10 years. Downgrade rights allow a user who has bought a later version of the Windows operating system to remove it and install the older version in its stead without paying for a second license. And, as Computerworld notes, with 74 percent of businesses still running Windows XP, the OS isn’t going away anytime soon.

It’s not really Microsoft’s fault: While Windows 7 has been generally well received, large enterprises like to standardize computers on a single operating system to make maintenance and training easier, and if a business still has older hardware installed, that usually means an older OS is required. When those businesses do get upgraded, it will likely be all at once.

Downgrade rights let them bide their time until they’re ready to do that.
Microsoft has extended downgrade rights for XP repeatedly since Windows Vista was released years ago, usually for a few months at a time, but the latest move — offering multiple years of downgrade rights all at once — is unprecedented.

Lebron James in Miami Heat

Lebron James will be playing in Miami Heat this season of NBA. This is the latest news in Basketball Sports. Somehow, the transfer of Lebron James to Miami Heat will cause a disappointment in his Fans around the world. But, still it's Lebron James! I know he can surely maintain his moves and great games that his fans love to watch.  We all know that Lebron James is one of the best players in NBA

Lebron James now in Miami Heat
This news will disappoint some fans, while some will be excited to the new career of Lebron James. I’m sure Cleveland fans will be very disappointed and sad about this new venture of Lebron James.
Here is the news from  ESPN Sports

LeBron’s unsavory ‘Decision’ spectacle

And now I’d like to present … The Column on The Decision, which was announced by The Egotist, who has lost The Respect of The Columnist for jacking around The Cavs, The Bulls, The Knicks, The Nets and The Clippers (yes, even The Clippers) before deciding on The Heat and milking it for every Favre-like minute as he talked about The King in The Third Person.

Please tell me it’s over, or is LeBron James still blabbering away about the agony of free agency?
The writing was on the wall for the Heat, despite the writing on this fan’s sign.
If nothing else, the James Team’s manufactured saga makes you yearn for simpler times, like when Michael Jordan, who actually won things such as championships, announced one of his monumental career decisions in a concise “I’m back” fax.

But no, we got 27 minutes of TV appetizers, followed by eight seconds of LeBron steak (“This fall — man, this is very tough — um, this fall I’m going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat”), followed by 33-plus minutes of Worcestershire sauce. The whole thing was semi-ridiculous, although it did reveal a vain, self-absorbed side of James that’s as attractive as braided nose hair.
Anyway, he’s going to Miami to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh! Whooee!

Duh. Where else did you think he’d sign once Wade re-upped with Team Riley and Bosh followed? To Cleveland? Sure, because everyone wants to play for a team with little cap space and Mo Williams as your point guard. To the Bulls and a rookie head coach and a sometimes dysfunctional front office? To New York and the countdown to Amare Stoudamire’s next injury? To New Jersey and more questions marks than in this paragraph? To Los Angeles and Donald Sterling and the shadow of the Lakers and Kobe Bryant?

The minute Wade and Bosh chose Miami is the minute The Decision was made. James can (and did) frame it any way he wants; but if winning a championship was his No. 1 priority — and he said weeks and weeks ago that it was — then the Heat made the most sense, followed closely by the Bulls.

Nearly five months ago, I wrote a column outlining how and why a James-Wade-Bosh signing could happen. At the time, the Knicks were the team best positioned to pull off the audacious move. But that was before Heat president (and eventual coach?) Pat Riley started dumping salaries into Biscayne Bay. Then he kept Wade, recruited Bosh and that was that.

These two Cavs fans at the Harry Buffalo in Cleveland had some trouble appreciating LeBron’s seven-year contribution to their city on Thursday night.

I don’t have a problem with James’ choice. Had he selected anyone but the Heat or the Bulls, he would have backtracked on his free agency campaign promise of caring only about wins, not money. By signing with the Heat, he’ll get both — maybe not as much money had he stayed in Cleveland; but in the short and long run, he’ll have a better chance at an NBA title.

What bothers me isn’t so much the contrived nature of the announcement, but that James was such a willing participant, if not the creator, of thespectacle. He is an immensely gifted player — the best in the NBA — but he has won nothing. Zilch. Goose eggs. At least Wade has a championship ring. Whatever James won in high school doesn’t count.

Can you imagine what Kobe was thinking as he watched Thursday evening’s announcement? He must have been seething. He’s probably already counting the months, weeks and days until the Lakers play the Heat during the regular season. Knowing how Bryant uses such things as motivation, he’s almost surely hoping the Heat win the Eastern Conference and face the Lakers in the Finals.

The world's oldest person: Antisa Khvichava

According to Georgia, the world's oldest person is Antisa Khvichava.

Authorities in the former Soviet republic of Georgia claim a woman from a remote mountain village of SACHIRE, Georgia turned 130 on Thursday, making her the oldest person on Earth.

Mrs. Antisa Khvichava, lives with her 40-year-old grandson in an idyllic vine-covered country house in the mountains, retired from her job as a tea and corn picker in 1965, when she was 85, records say.
"I've always been healthy, and I've worked all my life — at home and at the farm," said Khvichava, in a bright dress and headscarf, her withering lips rejuvenated by shiny red lipstick. Sitting in the chair and holding her cane, Khvichava spoke quietly through an interpreter since she never went to school to learn Georgian and speaks only the local language, Mingrelian.

Her age couldn't immediately be independently verified. Her birth certificate was lost — one of the great number to have disappeared in the past century amid revolutions and a civil war which followed the collapse of the Russian Empire.

Lindsay Lohan send to jail for 90 days

Lindsay Lohan was sentenced last Tuesday, July 6, 2010  by Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel to be in jail for 90 days and inpatient rehab program after finding that Ms. Lohan had violated the terms of her probation in a 2007 drug case.

Lindsay Lohan's was once a holywood star but it seems her movie career is not doing any good anymore with this case, the lady is really in big trouble. She sobbed loudly on hearing the sentence. Earlier, she tearfully begged the judge for another chance saying she was taking her alcohol education classes seriously.

But Ms. Lohan missed seven classes since December, which led to the judge's harsh rebuke of Lohan moments after the "Mean Girls" star offered a tearful apology.

"I did do everything I was told to do and did the best I could to balance jobs and showing up," Lohan told the judge. "It wasn't vacation, it wasn't some sort of a joke."

Revel said she found Lohan's apology insincere, comparing it to "somebody who cheats and thinks it isn't cheating if she doesn't get caught."
